It's that time of the year.
Halloween is in a week.
Thanksgiving is in a month.
Christmas two months.
And already influencers on social media are encouraging people to try crazy diets to not gain weight during this time of the year.
You know what we say at CTS?! That's bullsh*t. Crazy diets NEVER ever ever work.
Depriving yourself and making yourself miserable only accomplishes one thing - it makes you miserable.
You know what does work?! Exercising weekly. Consistency. Showing up.
Yes, ideally you should be exercising at least 150 min a week. And you know what? I bet you can do it if you break it up into 20 minute intervals and get it done first thing in the morning. Yup, get up, workout for 20 min everyday and bam you've got 140 min (and that's pretty damn close). OR join us for Small Group or Personal Training twice a week that equals 90 minutes and will be fun and challenging, and then add in a couple of walks!
Consistently exercising during the holidays is one of the best ways to stay in shape because:
It helps you move your body so you feel strong and flexible
It burns calories and helps you break a sweat to reset your system
It keeps you in touch with your goals and progress
The point is - exercising every week during the months of November and December will help you stay strong & healthy and help you not gain weight. Period.
You know what else really works?! Eating (somewhat) healthy 80% of the time.
Halloween candy?! Yes you can totally have some, just don't eat the entire bag (no one needs that). Thanksgiving Turkey? No it won't cause you to gain weight if you eat a reasonable amount. Just don't eat an entire pie right after LOL Christmas egg nog?! Dear friends, enjoy the nog just don't over do it.
Also, eat TONS of fruits veggies protein and healthy carbs and fat!! If you are eating healthy 80% of the time you can indulge and enjoy the other 20% happily! It's not rocket science y'all, and it doesn't change every holiday season. Eating healthy is the same year round and the simpler you can make it the better!
And we encourage you to be kind to yourself and if you enjoy a delicious snack here and there, really enjoy it. Pause to savor it. Close your eyes, don't rush it, and truly enjoy it.
That's the point: during the holidays simply continue to exercise AND eat healthy 80% of the time and you can enjoy the most wonderful time of the year, while still staying healthy and strong!
Please remember, the holidays don't have to be full of stress and struggle. Seriously. The holidays can be fun, enjoyable and memorable if you are thoughtful and continue to prioritize your self-care. It will make a huge difference!
